On December 1st 2021, Legal Commons hosted the first of its Impact Conversation Series on Digital rights; expanding the Frontiers of Constitutional Rights in Nigeria with Adeboye Adegoke of Paradidmhq, Kadeem Olayiwole, Managing Partner of Amorim Solicitors, Mr Mr Liberty Oseni, Coordinator of Media Advocacy of West Africa and Roseline Okori of Citizen Commons as moderator.
Legal Commons is an initiative of Citizen Commons that identifies a number of policies issues of importance to young Nigerians and advanced public interest cases to test the validity of policies and advocate for change through the instrumentation of the law.
The event featured legal experts and members of the digital rights community exploring the implication, potential and challenges of the expansion of human rights to digital rights in the age of technology and the internet.
No doubt, Digital Rights just like the Right to Access to Information, the Right to privacy right to free speech are human rights that must be preserved both online and offline. While we agree that technology has brought about endless possibilities that have benefited us at large, we must recognize the limitations that come with the enjoyment of these benefits, such as the risk to personal data and more.
The event is the first of this kind of impactful series by legal commons The Legal Commons platform also provides resources and technical support to probono lawyers, social activists and change leaders to advance their advocacies for positive change in society. It is a network that connects the demand for legal representation and social inclusion to the supply of activists and advocates
